London City Airport is located in
Docklands, in the
Borough of Newham, approximatel 7 miles east of
London. It was designed, established and open in 1986. Currently,
London City Airport is implementing the plan to expand and grow till 2030, as up till now its capacity has only been 8 million passengers. It is rather small airport compare to others international ones such as
Heathrow. It is situated close to financial district , therefore it is mainly used by business travellers, You can find there kiosks of many different airlanes such as
Air France, Lufthansa,
British Airways, Luxair and
Swiss International Air Lines. Regarding facilities,
London City Airport uses eighteen gates and has
free Wi-Fi for all the passengers. It is also a private jet center, the closest one to Central London.
London City Airport recieved an award for the 'best corporate aviation passenger handling facility in Europe' and it was granted by European Business Air News. It is also unconventional that this airport is more busy during the winter time than summer month, and it is directly connected with the type od passengers, who are mostly businessmen. Another reason is that it offers destination such as Geneva,
Milan or
Zurich which are popular as areas close to ski resorts.
