London Heathrow Airport or simply
Heathrow is the busiest airport in
European Union and the biggest one in
United Kingdom, serving its capital -
London. Located in
West London, in the

Heathrow a
high class aeropolis, as it employs over 70,000 people and attracts many corporations and hotels who located their abodes in the area. It is also a hub for national
British Airways and a base for
Virgin Atlantic Airways. Its distance from the
Central London is relatively small - only 12 miles.
Heathrow and its prestige can be measured by the event with royal family, as recently
Queen Elisabeth II opened the new and modern
Terimal 5 to the passengers. Since 2009, construction works are conducted in the new Termina 2 which is suppose to replace old terminal complex. The first section of
new Terminal will be opened in
2014. If you are a prospect passenger and think about ways to get to
Heathrow, you shall know that transport links are available from any part of town and there is plenty of them, depending on your budget. The most convenient way would still probably be
London Underground. Heathrow is the biggest but not the only airport serving
London. Alongside you can find
Luton,
Stansted, Southend and City, Biggin Hill and
Gatwick. However,
Heathrow serves international passengers and is used by approximately 90 airlines heading to over 170 destinations all around the world. Imagine, that only 60 years ago
Heathrow has merely six runways which were arranged in three pairs. Today it is a large
aeropolis - truly impressive!
